The Arduino IDE and environment has many drivers and libraries available within an arms reach, but the Arduino environment is limited to just setup() and loop() and doesn't support multi-tasking effectively. . This is a simple, easy to use and robust FreeRTOS implementation that can just shim into the Arduino IDE as a Library and allow the use of the best parts of both environments, seamlessly.

Guide to code for multitasking and non blocking timers

Arduino is an open source prototyping platform for electronics. There is so much you can do with Arduino and the community is proof. In playing with Arduino I decided that it would be a great project to create a small multitasking library for use on AVR platforms, which includes Arduino. . A small introduction

Arduino Multitasking Using Loops - CodeProject

AVR based Arduino's do not support (hardware) threading, I am unfamiliar with the ARM based Arduino's. One way around this limitation is the use of interrupts, especially timed interrupts. You can program a timer to interrupt the main routine every so many microseconds, to run a specific other routine.

Timing - Arduino Libraries

/5/2009There is no native support for multitasking, but I am pretty sure that what you want to do is possible to accomplish with arduino. You could however implement a time-based pseudo-multitask library. I would use a FiniteStateMachine to solve this and probably have ACTIVE,PAUSED,FINNISHED states, or something in the likes of that.

Multitasking with millis. I recently updated my arduino-fsm library to include support for timed transitions, so you don't need to manage the timing yourself. Below is the code for blinking two LED's at different rates using arduino-fsm and the new add_timed_transition method.
